May 09, 2022 18:51 pmYeah… roles totally changed my life. š I never understood all that mess people are making in playbooks directly. But currently i am looking how to… tidy up like… general purpose role and personal tweak roles. I mean… i would like to publish my general role of HAproxy to the Ansible Galaxy so i could take it from there at any time. But at the same time i have "private" configuration for that HAproxy server which i would like also to manage via role. I know, i can use Vault to store secrets and hide sensitive data, but management of two similar roles seems wrong. So… i should choose, do i want to make that role public or not. Still researching the best approaches.

May 09, 2022 18:51 pmThanks for this. There are literally hundreds of videos that describe how to use Roles with examples. However they all seem to forget to explain WHY we should. Iāve never been much of a ābecause thatās what the vendor suggests or thatās what everyone is doingā person. I needed to know what the point of roles are and why it is recommended that we migrate our playbooks to role. Thanks for the info.
